Picking up that chow!

Yes! By now you have hopefully read the first part of this tutorial and have played a few rounds. Time to learn a few more things. The first part of this tutorial relied on tha fact that the mahjong client prevents you from making mistakes that are against the rules of mahjong. Now you need to be more familiar with some of those rules. Here is one thing that you might have missed :
You can declare a chow (three tiles in a sequence) from the discards of the other player sitting to your left, or when you can declare mahjong using the discarded tile. However a pong kan be declared from the discards of any other players discards.

Your Tiles:
bamboo 1bamboo 1bamboo 2 character 5character 6 east windeast wind

If any of the other players discards an east tile or a bamboo 1 you can declare a pong, however you can only declare a chow only if the player on your left discards a bamboo 3.

Let us assume that a bamboo 1 is discarded and you declare a pong and discard the bamboo 2
bamboo 2

bamboo 1bamboo 1bamboo 1 discarded
Your hand now looks like:
character 5character 6 east windeast wind
Excellent! If you draw a Character 4 or Character 7 or if any other player discards one of them and you are the rock star! MAHJONG!
